Does anyone else think a purse or a stick is going to stop an aggressive Pit Bull?

Attacking Pitbulls' Fate Up in the Air

"An uncertain fate for two pitbulls that attacked two people in Chilliwack yesterday. A 33 year old woman and a 52 year old man ended up in hospital with some bad cuts and puncture wounds. It's not the first time the cops have been called to deal with this pair of pitbulls. But this time the dogs attacked. A woman was jumped and when a man tried to help, the animals turned on him. Police say when it happened, there was no sign of the owners. So do pitbulls deserve the bad reputation they seem to have? The SPCA's Anita Edson says "no." Edson says, unfortunately, some people get a hold of pitbulls with the intent of turning them into dangerous dogs. Still, she says meeting one on the street without its owner around can be very intimidating. If you ever meet one, Edson says don't look it in the eye, and try to put something like a purse or even a stick between you and the dog. "

My comment: Does anyone else think a purse or a stick is going to stop an aggressive Pit Bull? While this advice may work on an attacking Cocker Spaniel, I think the BCSPCA better come clean and just tell the public there's nothing you can do except scream for help!
