This POUND is not a SHELTER! Cowichan pound kills three adoptable dogs *LINK* *PIC*

Feb.8, 2004 the Capital Regional District Pound was full to the brim and the Victoria SPCA was also unable to take any adoptable dogs from them. As the CRD had only adoptable dogs the (in hindsight unfortunate) decision was made to send three adoptable dogs to the Pound in Cowichan for adoption and it was agreed that the CRD would send their three most adoptable.

The three dogs considered very adoptable by the CRD were all killed within a two week period. The reason given was that they were unadoptable.

This POUND calls itself a shelter and was paid $35.00 a dog to take these dogs by the CRD. This POUND advertises to the general public that it will be happy to have them surrender their pet so they can rehome it. This POUND advertises that is offers luxurious boarding and soft music.

The dogs that were killed were a very friendly Siberian Husky, and two young Rottweilers both of which were very friendly. Parker was a great dog who was always happy, always tail wagging and considered by the CRD to be very adoptable. Samson was just a darling who loved belly rubs and should have had a long happy life ahead of him as he was just a pup full of endearing antics.

This is a perfect example of how a POUND operates. This is not a SHELTER, this is a PET DISPOSAL FACILITY.

White hat, Black hat: Good cop - Bad cop. The SPCA shouldn't be both

There is an SPCA on Bell McKinnon Rd in Duncan that is a real shelter
