From the Petcetera Corporate Website June 12,2004

"Due to the lack of knowledge and misunderstanding of keeping exotic animals as pets, Petcetera does not support the sale of these animals.Instead,we facilitate the adoption of exotic animals through the Adoption Centre, which features a display area where animals are on exhibit in the store for adoption purposes,"
says Dan Urbani, Founder, President & CEO of Petcetera.
These words also appear on the websites of each store location listed as being in British Columbia and other provinces across Canada.

From the contract between BC SPCA and Petcetera signed in 1999:

Petcetera will not sell exotic animals since the BC SPCA does not approve of this practice. Exotic animals are those that are not indigenous to Canada. Non-domestic or wild caught animals are included in this group. Fish, lovebirds, finches, canaries, budgies, hamsters, cockatiels, rabbits mice, gerbils, guinea pigs and rats are not included as exotics.
Wild Animal shall be defined, as any vertebrate that lives in the wild or in a natural state in Canada, not subjected to domestication through selective or controlled breeding.

In Funk and Wagnalls New Practical Standard Dictionary of the English Language:

Support-to carry on,to keep up,to bear,endure, tolerate,or put up with,to advocate for
Indigenous-originating in,not exotic,native to
Adopt-To accept,receive or choose as one's own.
Facilitate-To make easier or more convenient.
Sell-To dispose of by sale,to give up for a price,to find buyers or a market,to deal in.

Therefore:

Petcetera,in agreement with and due to the disapproval of the BC SPCA, does not carry on,keep up,bear, endure, tolerate, put up with or advocate for(support)disposal of by sale, giving up for a price, finding buyers or a market for or dealing in(the sale)of animals which are not indigenous(originating in,native to,exotic) to Canada. However, instead,it does make easier or more convenient(facilitate)accepting, choosing or receiving as one's own(adopting)animals which are not originating in,exotic to,not native
(indigenous)to Canada(exotic animals)through the Adoption Centre in a display area where exotic(not indigenous to Canada)animals are on exhibit in the store for the purpose of being accepted, chosen or received as someone's own.

This contract is not about the welfare of animals. It is about carefully chosen words and words which are not visible but are between the lines.

Now who is it that fell off the turnip truck?? Gotta' love that word "Instead"!!!
