Sky and Moon were running wild near the Anahim Lake reserve near Williams Lake BC until fed by a kind woman. Here they are resting after a real meal... |
Moon is the black male and Sky (they were named by their rescuer) is a female. They are both most likely still young because unowned dogs are shot before they get much past a year. |
October 26, 2010 I am writing to you from Nimpo Lake, 200 miles west of Williams Lake. I found two hungry dogs in the woods and one has a limp. I suspect they are from the reserve 20 miles away. My neighbor wants to shoot them but I asked them not to. I am on borrowed time because if the dogs get too close to their chicken barn they will shoot. They are lovely dogs with very gentle personalities. I am on a fixed income and have no way to transport them to a vet, nor do I have any place to put them because I have some rescued rabbits in my cabin. Is there anything you can do to help me? Pay for transport to help? Is there anyone who can adopt these two. There is nobody out here in the bush who cares what happens to these dogs. I am asking for some sort of assistance. I don't have a phone, only email. Arlene Longson
A
Better Life Dog Rescue and AAS both jumped
in immediately. ABL is doing the heavy lifting,
arranging flights, the vet, and foster homes in one day!
AAS is raising the money to pay the bills. Every
penny you send AAS will be spent on ABL's rescue bills.
AAS committed to helping to pay the transport and vet bills for Sky and Moon.
Thank you so much...I am blown away at
how generous, caring, and amazingly helpful you
are...which is a big shocker for me... and a relief. It
is such a big burden caring so deeply for non-human
beings to the point that I am ridiculed, thought of as
some sort of nutcase among local bush-folk. I am told by
my neighbour that rescuing animals is embarrassing. She
said she wasn't going to dare tell her family and
friends that I had the audacity to feed two starving
dogs. I should have let them die...or should have let
someone go off and shoot them. Animals are considered to
be not much more than inanimate objects in this area. It
makes me sick... So thank you.
October 27/10
I heard a dog in the bush calling during the night, and
I suspect it is Moon looking for Sky. It will be tough
because I don't have any sausage left to lure Moon with
if I see him in my travels... which would be awful. When
I get back I will do a search for Moon again. He sounds
forlorned out there. I wish I could have gone out
looking in the dark but that is unwise in this
territory.
I just took Sky up to one of my bird feeding stations up the hill, and up there there is no sign of moon. It is snowing heavily now. |
