Volunteering

Volunteering and fundraising for AAS

We don't have a "shelter" — terrible, grim, fear-filled places where dogs and cats are kept in concrete and steel cages, forced to live in their own excrement and urine, surrounded by the frantic crying of other bewildered, fearful dogs, exposed to diseases that can (and frequently do) kill them, walked if they are lucky, a few times a week, where their behaviour becomes worse and — they are killed for being "unadoptable", or they become depressed — and are also killed for being "unadoptable".

Our dogs are in foster homes where they are loved, walked, and made to feel part of a family, receive training and socializing, where we get to know their personalities and their special needs so that we can make an informed decision about their future home. We do this so that a dog isn't betrayed over and over.

So there is no facility for the public to come to visit, walk, groom, view dogs and cats.

Our single greatest need is for foster homes.

When we have a fund-raiser or a mail-out, we ask for volunteers at that time. Email us, subject line "volunteering", and we will email you when these opportunities arise.

If you have a fundraising idea, please let us know. Tell us what it is and how you would like to carry it out.

We need dedicated people with the ability to approach municipal councils with an AAS proposal, and working with us, get an issue on the agenda, make a presentation, decide on advertising, get out supporters (from our lists), deal with the media, work with city hall, take on an issue and see it through. It is the only way that change will be made.

One of the most powerful things you can do is to spread our web of compassion for animals. Send our web site www.animaladvocates.com and messageboard http://www.animaladvocates.com/cgi-bin/newsroom.pl to everyone you know who hates cruelty to animals. Only the power of animal-lovers joined together by the internet is going to change animal protection and welfare in this province.
Use your power for the animals!
