Conning the old ladies in Victoria part 2: the SPCA's Pet Survivor Plan

Dear AAS,

You may be interested in this item.

In the May issue of "Senior Living", a local publication directed to seniors in the Victoria area, there is an article "Plan for Pets" by Diana Gault that promotes the SPCA Pet Survivor Program. Ms. Gault was most impressed with the SPCA Program and Planned Giving Officer John Houle. What the article fails to say is that Diana Gault is John Houle's wife! It seems Ms. Gault and Mr. Houle have conspired to con seniors into supporting an SPCA program. I believe this type of false advertising may be illegal if not it is certainly unethical. I understand you are being sued for saying that the SPCA acts in unethical ways.

I find it somewhat surprising that after 4 years with the SPCA Mr. Houle is unable to find one arm's length client to write a testimonial in support of the SPCA. If I was still on the Board I would be calling for the termination of Mr. Houle and a reprimand for any other employee who authorized or condoned this type of promotion.

The editor of Senior Living can be reached at editor@seniorlivingmag.ca

Sincerely,
Rick Sargent
Past President, BC SPCA
Victoria
