To: The Hon Wally Oppal, Attorney General for BC
A group of other BC residents and I, are being sued by the BCSPCA because we spoke publicly about some serious concerns we have with this organization. In 2001 the BC Liberals threw out our anti-SLAPP suit legislation, so British Columbians are no longer protected from multi-million dollar organizations who want to silence their critics. I don't believe this is how a fair, democratic and lawful society should operate. Citizens should be free to raise concerns, and they should get help from their government when an organization as large, rich and powerful as the BCSPCA is under such public scrutiny.
Please re-instate the BC Anti-SLAPP legislation that would permit this suit to be dropped, so that all British Columbians are protected and democracy can be restored.
Thank you,
Emma Vandewetering
