There is a sure-fire way to eliminate the dilemma of feeding animals to animals in captivity...stop keeping animals in captivity. Time and again I have written about this issue, so here I go again...

Let's step back and take a good, hard look at human behaviour, and at our need to use animals for our whims and entertainment. Whether it is confinement in zoos, in our homes, pulling cute little carriages, on rodeo and competetive circuits, for food, we have always had the urge to conquer and control every creature of the world. The excuse that we need animals for workhorses is now a thing of the past, so it is time for of all of us to make new decisions.

We must stop breeding every creature in captivity and allow them to live only in their own natural environments - thus putting the question of feeding lamb to dogs to bed.

No, I am most certainly not advocating turning all of our domestic critters out onto the pavement to fend for themselves. I am, however, stating that we need to support and maintain the lands where these creatures may roam free, as they were meant to before mankind made other decisions for them. We humans have been the sole cause of the invention of the 'endangered species' list by pillaging and exploiting the land, seas and air. It is now our responsibility to ensure that this selfish behaviour does not continue, in any aspect.

We must give our enslaved critters as good a life in captivity as we are able, and that means not continuing to force them into unnatural acts such as 'showing', riding, forcing them into labour, etc. Most importantly, we must immediately stop breeding future generations of slaves to our whims, thus ensuring that each species will be free in their own habitat.

I am aware that this will never happen in my lifetime, therefore I will continue to take in the existing creatures who need rescue, knowing that there is an endless supply to be loved and cared for, thanks to humans' greed.

As to the issue of feeding our captives, think of how many cows, chickens, lambs would be saved from being brutally sacrificed if at least we who have a choice stopped eating them.
