Kathi is just playing to the masses. She probably loves animals but doesn't want to be labelled as an activist, bleeding heart or whatever other name is thrown at her.

For me, all life is sacred regardless of the species. People will say animal research is necessary, but I personally have my doubts. Scientists can apparently clone any living cell, but still can't find anything more reliable than tests on animals? If animal testing was forbidden it would put a lot of people out of work, so it continues because it all comes down to dollars and cents. Animal testing is a billion dollar business, and no one is going to give up their share of the pie, even if it means they're doing the right thing.
