Chastised for giving wet food to shelter cats

As a previous volunteer at the Victoria shelter, I was often chastised for giving wet food to the shelter cats because "it was making them fat". In most cases, these poor cats were so stressed that it was a constant struggle to even get them to eat, so I found this a weak argument indeed. As weak, in fact, as Ms. Chortyk's argument. Where do they come up with this stuff??
