Subject: Dog in severe distress on Capilano Reserve
To:
Marcie Moriarty, BC SPCA Manager of Cruelty Investigations
Debby Heiliger, Manager of West Vancouver SPCA
At six o'clock last night I got a call from [name removed] on the Capilano reserve. Her phone number is [removed]. She gave one of her Shepherd cross pups to her cousin 9 or 10 years ago and he kept the dog all that time in a bedroom, mostly only letting it out to urinate and defecate. [Name removed] lived next door and knew this. Four months ago the cousin moved and left the old dog in the yard. [Name removed] fed it but did not bring it inside her home. That means it was out in the winter storms and freezing cold after years in a bedroom. [Name removed] said she couldn't bring it in because she has cats. She said now it is dying and can barely move and is having trouble breathing. I asked her to please bring the dog inside since it couldn't be a danger to her cats any longer. She refused. I told her that I couldn't come and get the dog that night and she hung up as I was about to tell her I would bring it to the vet tomorrow. She refused to answer further calls from me.
Please check on the condition of this dog today.
I am still willing to pay the vet bills for this dog and to foster it if it is still alive.
