I heard from the West Van SPCA this morning that on receipt of my email, they attended the residence and the dog was found dead. I have been told that this incident has been given to the BC SPCA's Cruelty Investigation Department.
If charges are laid, as we hope they are, perhaps this heralds the beginning of some better prevention of cruelty to dogs on reserves by the SPCA.
AAS offered, before knowing the dog was dead, to pay the vet bills and to foster the poor old dear. We have offered this before to the SPCA when we attempted to work in partnership with the SPCA, but our offers were always ignored and we were either told that the dog is perfectly fine, or the dog disappears, and we don't know if by reporting the dog to the SPCA we have caused its death.
We will continue to report some dogs to the SPCA in the hope that doing so will result in a better outcome for the dog and a chance to improve our animal-welfare relationship with the BC SPCA.
