An SPCA is on a killing spree again. This time in Ontario. 350 cats are being killed because there is an outbreak of Ringworm.
It is clear that Ringworm is highly contagious and very difficult to overcome. However it is not a fatal disease. I know from experience.
A few years ago we took in an abandoned kitten, 4 or 5 days old, it did not have its eyes open yet, but was already covered with Ringworm. He had no fur on his face, chest and much of his back. My wife and I had our arms covered with Ringworm, which had also spread to our faces.
We kept the kitten in a cage in the living room, where we also had 5 cats and yet the Ringworm did not spread to them.
For the first two months we had a 24-hour job tending to the kitten and then another 2 months before we completely overcame the Ringworm. And even then we had to be very careful, as this illness can return after some time in the future.
Today this kitten is a beautiful, smart and highly intelligent tom, neutered, who loves us as much as we love him.
The point is: If we can manage this situation with an already dying 5-day old kitten, working in a small 2-bedroom house, I see no excuse whatever for the Ontario SPCA to kill hundreds of cats because of an outbreak of Ringworm. This action is beyond comprehension.
