Just to let you know that I have not sat idly by since hearing about Tina's plight on Peter Warren's program (CKNW) early last week. I was obviously, like all of you, incensed. I finally managed to make contact with the zoo after many attempts. I first spoke to a Mr. Larry Lee who described himself as the "bean counter." I have since spoken to Jamie, who, as you know, is Tina's "keeper."
I have called and emailed the sanctuary in Tennessee. Having seen a documentary about the sanctuary (PBS), I am in no doubt that Tina must go there.
I have spoken to the Vancouver Humane Society several times, spoken to and emailed Craig Daniell of the BCSPCA, emailed Zoocheck, and written to the Township of Langley whose jurisdiction the zoo falls under (so I have been told after making several enquiries).
I called three local television stations to ask if they intended to cover the zoo's neglect of Tina; and have subsequently called to thank Global for their coverage while asking them not to let the story die.
My greatest fear has been that Tina will be shipped off to another zoo in the dead of night never to be seen or heard of again.
I never visit zoos. I loathe them. The citizens of the Lower Mainland owe it to this magnificent creature to make sure she goes to Tennessee without delay.
Thank you AAS for all you are doing.
