Lykkemark still doesn't know why there are so many kittens at this time of year?

There is little to say about how the BC SPCA deals with cats feral or not, because over the decades the BC SPCA has done virtually nothing except eradicate them.

In the recent past the BC SPCA has shown even less regard for even tame cats, if that is possible, by closing the Victoria SPCA Spay and Neuter Clinic and cancelling its community spay and neuter program.

The small cat rescue groups no longer include the Victoria SPCA in the solution at all and it is galling that the Victoria Branch of the BC SPCA can then say in the media that "SPCAs traditionally ask to see a mother cat when a litter is dropped off, and will help off-set the cost of fixing the animal to ensure it doesn't have other litters. As funds are stretched, (Manager) Valerie Lykkemark, wants owners to start taking responsibility for the operation themselves.

"This time of year is always difficult for the Society as summer is when most cats are in heat, she said. This year is far worse than usual and the shelters don't know why."(" SPCA littered with too many cats", published in Victoria Weekend on July 23, 2004)

When the BC SPCA does not understand why there are too many cats after being in existence over 100 years there is nothing left to say.

Those of us living in the real world providing real solutions by having book drives, silent auctions, strawberry teas, car washes and whatever fund raiser we can squish into our busy lives, know the answer. (SSShhh don't say it too loud... SPAY AND NEUTER!)

SPCA quickie solution to feral cats is to kill them all, then call this "animal welfare"

SPCA policy lies: Killing is the only solution: We are kinder than you are when we kill by the gross

Say, what does the S.P.C.A. do?
Money, money, money...but where does it go?
No feral cat program is the answer to Ms. Lykkemark's question.
If you really cared about animals, you can never put into its healthy body a fatal injection
