INVESTIGATING FOUR SPCA POLICIES

In the last week of October and the first two weeks on November, AAS investigated four SPCA policies where policy reveals itself: at the branch operations level. The investigations and the results are below.

We have long held the opinion that there are two branches that more closely follow true animal welfare policies. They are the Powell River SPCA and the Nanaimo SPCA. Audrey Hill runs the Powell River SPCA and she used to run the Nanaimo SPCA. Audrey, of all the people we talked to during these investigations, is the only SPCA person who was as clear and as passionate about what is real animal welfare as we and other real animal welfare groups are. She was honest, forthright, concerned and helpful and offered to do more than we asked to make sure that the animals under discussion got real animal welfare solutions.

AAS thanks all the researchers all over the province who participated in our investigations.

Please note that we cannot guarantee that any practice we were told of is consistently practiced or that the information we received in all cases is accurate. Speaking to the manager was seldom possible and saying we were phoning for AAS would almost certainly result in no information being given at all, or deliberately innacurate information being given.
