Killing pets for the public

This is another BC SPCA policy that was changed only recently under the constant pressure from AAS's web site. It was a real money maker for the SPCA for decades. The SPCA had the tools to kill and the staff trained in killing. It had all that was needed to branch out into killing pets for cash.

Why would an organization that promotes itself as an animal welfare organization have staff in every branch trained in killing pets? Mercy killing is so infrequently needed that the SPCA could have used the services of vets as real animal welfare organizations do. But at the SPCA, killing was not for mercy, it was a necessary part of the SPCA's huge pet disposal business. And in-house killing was dirt cheap compared to using vets. When you deal in the massive volume of killing that the SPCA does, there is a very considerable savings in doing it yourself.

So it had the tools and the staff already. Killing for anyone who paid, no questions asked, was a real no-brainer.

Read here how the SPCA was perfectly willing to kill any animal for anyone, no questions asked: http://www.animaladvocates.com/spca-kill-for-cash.htm

We asked each branch that we could reach if it would euthanize a healthy five-year old border collie that belonged to our mother who had died.
