For as long as 50 years the SPCA sold intact dogs and cats, many of which went on to have litters, and many of those ended up in SPCAs to also be sold intact, or killed. An endless cycle of suffering for the animals and an endless source of income and jobs for the SPCA.

Worse - the SPCA permitted its own employees and directors to breed and sell pets, mostly cats and dogs, the very animals that it killed thousands of a year.

If that is not proof that the SPCA, its employees and directors, didn't care how many animals they killed a year, what is?

The SPCA will no longer permit new employees and directors to breed. But this new policy was only recently adopted, only under the urelenting pressure of its critics and this web site, not because the SPCA decided on its own volition that it was unethical and dishonest for it to constantly urge the public to spay and neuter, and to constantly blame the "irresponsible" public for what it was doing itself.

More recently, some SPCA branches have begun to sterilize dogs and cats before they are sold. Many branches still sell certificates with intact animals that are redeemable when the dog or cat is sterilized at a vet. There is no enforcement by the SPCA of the requirement to get the dog or cat sterilized, so some dogs and cats sold by the SPCA become breeding animals.

Some branches admitted that they no longer even have certificates, that funding for that has been cut off by head office.
