Sounds very familiar doesn't it? Even the frantic damage control is cookie-cutter P.R. It's called a business plan. AAS has said over and over that all the players in the animal "welfare" industry do business the same way....because it works for them. It does not work for animals though.

Of course every member of an industry does what makes money. In the "animal disposal industry" they all market the latest gimmick and seizures is the latest gimmick. There are two ways to make money in the animal disposal business.

One is making "heroic seizures" where the business seizes animals that may or may not be in distress, sells the animals, kills the unsellable, demands exorbitant sums of money from the owners to get their animals back alive, makes them sign gag orders so the truth doesn't get out, and terrorizes them into not fighting by using its money to hire expensive lawyers who will pull every trick in the book to make the case prohibitively expensive. The SPCA makes monsters out of innocent people, it ruins their lives, it destroys their animals, and it manipulates the media. That is the business plan that Craig Daniell put into action. We now have over a dozen cases where we can absolutely prove this.

The second way this industry makes money is by "animal sheltering". People are encouraged to dump their pets by the business's open door policy. Dumped pets are the free product that arrives daily. What isn't sellable is killed. People who will kill animals are hired. Operating expenses are kept to a bare minimum by bare, diseased cages and cells. Volunteers (they see behind the scenes), are discouraged. Sick, old, ugly, or behaviourally challenged are killed. Boxes of pups and kitten go straight into the furnace. The SPCA has only recently, under the unremitting exposure on this site and now in the media, started to improve it's used-pet business.

It used to be that SPCAs could make plenty of money just by doing pet disposal disguised as animal welfare. But a lot of women, horrified by what they knew the SPCA was doing, horned in on the business. They did real animal welfare for love. But still they drained off millions in donations every year. And the internet meant that the SPCA couldn't get away scot-free with mass killings anymore. So in 2003, the SPCA decided to get into the "heroic seizures" business. The way the SPCA is doing this is just a brutal to animals as its used-pet business is.

Who is to blame? The beginning and the end of this ethical, legal, and P.R. mess are the Members of the Board of Directors of the BC SPCA. In the middle are all the people they hire to do what the SPCA is doing.

To give you and idea of what a moral morass the Board is, consider one of its newest members, Bonnie Bischoff. Bonnie worked briefly at the Kamloops SPCA and quickly became "qualified" to decide which terrified, ill, blind dogs from a puppymill the SPCA would kill after the media had turned its eye elsewhere. The Kamloops SPCA turned down offers to foster and rehabilitate the doomed dogs from rescue rehabilitators, dog-lovers, and volunteers, and killed some of the dogs on the grounds that they were "unadoptable". We managed to stop it from killing more by investigating and publishing what they were doing. Bonnie Bischoff was rewarded by being chosen to be a Director of the BC SPCA. Bonnie is the Director responsible for the Kamloops SPCA where just last month, they killed 80 cats for getting sick from the diseased Kamloops SPCA. Many were killed as a "preventative". If that 's not proof that the SPCA is a business, what is?

The jig is almost up. The SPCA is going to be stopped. But this time, there is no way for it to save itself. At long last, Government is not pleased. That is saddening, but the SPCA had five years since AAS started its web site to just be honest. It never chose honesty. And now it may not survive.
