Animal Advocates Watchdog

It is despicable, and it shows in revolting clarity how morally bankrupt the SPCA still is.

This p.r. contest points out another gross lack of understanding of the ethics of animal welfare by everyone at the SPCA: at the board level, the executive level, and the branch level. The SPCA has shown itself, over and over, to be about numbers and figures: money in and animals out. Animals out means sold or killed.

This latest SPCA self-promotion is anti-animal welfare. No real animal welfarist would touch this promotion with a dirty barge pole. It is despicable, and it shows in revolting clarity how morally bankrupt the SPCA still is.

It is one more proof that the SPCA intends to hang onto a policy of unlimited intake that attracts millions in donations from uncomprehending animal lovers by having needy "full-to-bursting shelters". AAS has plenty of proof that many SPCAs are still just shuffling animals.

The SPCA justifies keeping its open surrender policy by saying it is "humane", but anyone who does real animal rescue soon figures out that shuffling pets and taking animals that there is no room for and then killing them is the antithesis of humane and in fact, promotes and entrenches the whole nasty circle.

When will the SPCA have the moral balls to let this huge money maker go?
