4 BCSPCA TV ads offer no value to animals

The BCSPCA has missed a golden opportunity to be honest with the public about spay/neuter and pet abandonment in their 4 new TV ads. These issues are the cornerstone of pet overpopulation and overflowing shelters, yet the BCSPCA chose instead to make an attempt at being funny to try and get people to adopt a pet.

The first ad is a father and son playing catch on a beach with the father offering words of encouragement to his son before throwing the ball out into the ocean and saying," go get it boy" to his bewildered son who just stares at him. The caption reads:Some things you can only do with a pet.
The next two ads focus a pair of college buddies watching TV on a couch together, with the one friend taking his hand and rubbing along the chest of his friend and scratching him, and picking him up and putting him over his lap.Of course the friend on the receiving end is horrified so the guy stops. Same caption: Some things you can only do with a pet.
The final ad is a woman digging for snacks in a fridge and her husband comes up behind her and uses a silly baby-like voice to call her his "little chubby-wubby" as he grabs her tummy and slaps it.She looks at him with a mouth full of food and says, "Don't do that!" and leaves. Same caption: Some things you can only do with a pet.

I see no value in these ads, and I don't believe they will encourage many people to run out and adopt a pet. Furthermore, if it does influence anyone, it may encourage impulse adoptions which means the animal may end up dumped at a shelter again after the person gets tired of the cuteness implied by these ads.

The BCSPCA will never be successful if they don't get real and honest with the public, instead of tiptoeing around problematic issues through the media so that they don't offend potential donors.
The time and money spent on these ads could have been put to far better use, leading to a direct positive impact on the animals. What a shame and what a waste.

It is despicable, and it shows in revolting clarity how morally bankrupt the SPCA still is.

AAS thinks that trying to sell more dogs is an honest attempt by the SPCA to kill fewer dogs, but typically, it has promoted itself, not dogs
