My experience with the SPCA? It's been hit and miss, unfortunately. I have reported 3 dogs to the SPCA in the last year. Only 1 was picked up. The dog that was removed was in immediate danger, as he had no food, water, shelter and it was raining. This dog was tied to a branch of a tree, with a rope, and he was spinning around in circles, wildly, as people walked by his house. Each time he spun around the rope would get shorter and he was beginning to hang himself. There was no one answering the door and I could not get near the dog, as he was a Chow and he was very vicious (I have removed dogs from yards that were in distress before). I called the SPCA and the did come that day, after I told them how urgent this was. He was removed by the SPCA. Tragically enough, these people now have another dog on a run and it lives outside in all this snow we are having. And the same abuse continues of animals by these people. I will be stopping by the SPCA tomorrow to have a chat with them and have this dog removed, as well.
The other 2 dogs I mentioned were no doubt left with their owners, as they did have some sort of food, water and shelter. But still, the conditions they were placed in by their owners were awful and they had no attention given to them. Dogs in Canadian are companions and working dogs and they deserve our respect and humane treatment.
I love what Animal Advocates is doing and I would love to help out some day. Thanks a lot and keep up the good work.
