In memory of Surrey SPCA dog #39900 *LINK* *PIC*

Dog #39900 is just one more dog who will remind us of why we are determined to reform the SPCA. The number of animals betrayed by the SPCA is too many to count. So in memory of all of them, here is dog #39900's story of betrayal.

Early in March this year, this dog was abandoned by someone and ended up at the Surrey SPCA. He looked just as he does in the photos below: clearly a sick dog. We had previously received worried communications from Surrey SPCA volunteers who believed that the SPCA had been infected with kennel cough for days. Nevertheless this dog was put in the general population after being vaccinated.

He really never stood a chance from that point on. A sick dog, vaccinated, then exposed to a particularly virulent strain of kennel cough. Extreme mucous discharge from mouths, noses, and eyes were described in the dogs that got infected.

The dog that the volunteers worried about the most was dog #39900. Gail Moerkerken of Big Heart Rescue in Maple Ridge was contacted and Gail instantly started the process of getting this dog (who BHR named Willy) out of the SPCA and into a foster home where he could be isolated from the disease and properly treated for the unknown underlying condition that had caused his hair loss.
