Six dogs killed - again *LINK* *PIC*

In January of 2003 the Vancouver SPCA killed six nice dogs for space and then, after volunteers went to the media, the SPCA falsely blamed the dogs' deaths on the dogs themselves by claiming that they were dangerous.

Of course they weren't, afterall the volunteers had been allowed unsupervised access, and to walk and groom the dogs.

That fiasco resulted in the SPCA hurriedly cobbling together a "moratorium" on killing for space. But it's not possible to not kill for space with policies of pound contracting and unlimited surrender, so the SPCA had to cobble together an excuse to kill for space that would fool the media. It came up with CAMP, replete with all the trendiest 'scientific' bells and whistles. It's not science of course, but it worked to explain the killing of a lot of dogs for awhile.

Those six dogs' deaths were only redeemed by the bravery of the volunteers who went to the media and the SPCA has been forced because of that to stop killing so many dogs.

But the fight is a long way from over, and now there are six more dogs that have been sacrificed to the SPCA's bottom line. As a result of the SPCA's unlimited surrender policy, healthy dogs are crammed in with sick dogs, disease is not controlled, and easily treatable kennel cough is an excuse for mass euthanasia.

The dogs that didn't make it out of the SPCA's house of horrors this time were Malone the six month old rottie cross pup, Vance, Blake, Max, a boxer cross, and a cocker.

The death of the cocker is especially illustrative of the SPCA's indifference. Rescuers offered to take the cocker and were told that she already had a home, and then she was killed.

The SPCA still does not do real animal welfare and it can't ever as long as it will not give up its revenue generating pound contracts and unlimited surrender.
