By "dirty work" I mean either placing the animal themselves, or taking the animal to a place clearly labeled "Pound" knowing full well that the animal will very likely be killed as there are too many animals and not enough homes (this is NOT to be confused with SPCA's and pounds who now call themselves no kill, which is extremely misleading and allows dumpers to think their animal will be just fine and get a loving home-these places may be "near no kill" but no one who does pound contracting can ever be no kill), or by taking the animal to the vet and paying for the killing themselves. Or yes, dumping them by the side of the road, of course, but I believe the type of person who does that is so lazy and uncaring that they'd do it regardless of whether there are kind shelters and rescuers. That type of person can't be bothered even to seek out their help.
You say "there aren't too many dogs born on the streets". How nice for you to have lived such a sheltered life. Have you ever lived next to an Indian Reserve? I have. Dogs are born, live, and die on the streets in droves there. Parvovirus is rampant. And no, I don't wish this to be taken as a racist comment. It is merely an observation from my own experiences. Have you ever lived in a depressed, poverty stricken area? I have. Dogs are born, live , and die that way too. They roam in packs. They procreate in the wilderness too - I have a little one right now that was running wild in a pack of five dogs in the bush near where I live. Go to the AAS webpage about Crystal Kerr- same thing in Bella Bella.
Yes, people are irresponsible, and it's human nature to want- and trust me, what I am talking about here is not "a plan". It's not about "moving forward" in a new direction and all that type of jargon that surrounds what the SPCA is selling us now. It's simply about a changing mindset. Like I said, I'm saying no to dumpers because it's the only thing that makes any sense to me. Just because I understand what lies at the root of a problem doesn't mean I have a "plan" on how to solve it. I have some ideas, but I must admit I am always stymied by that same old foe- human nature. Still, doesn't mean I won't keep trying.
