Woman in Critical Condition after Fire

SURREY(CKNW/AM980) - While a 50-year old Surrey woman lies close to death in hospital after suffering severe burns in an early morning apartment fire, the SPCA was called in to deal with the bodies of nearly 60 cats in the woman's care.
It's believed at least another ten managed to escape the blaze.
Spokesperson Lorie Chortyk says the woman was known to them as someone running an independent animal rescue and while they had concerns about what Chortyk says was a clear case of animal hoarding, there had been no formal complaints lodged against her.
Chortyk says just this year, the SPCA has already dealt with about 10 rescue operators, who, while good intentioned, take on more animals than they can handle.
