I would like to comment on Ms. Chortyk's continuing lack of professionalism as spokesperson for the BCSPCA.
Phoning people at home to say that CKNW got it wrong, and that she was misquoted?? A true professional would have called the radio station to clarify the misunderstanding and publicly offered an apology to Ms. Parent and her family.
Instead of promoting true animal welfare, responsible pet stewardship and advocating for spay/neuter/release laws Ms. Chortyk again has spoken out against animal rights workers. How does it serve animals to continually criticize individuals and small animal rescue groups who foot the bill for spay/neuter/rehab/release out of their own pockets?
In my opinion, the BC SPCA must really be in rough shape if Ms. Chortyk's main strategy as their spokesperson is to make others look bad so that the BC SPCA looks good by comparison.
Unfortunately, when the BC SPCA resorts to derogatory labels for people such as Ms. Parent who are doing the work that the BC SPCA really should be promoting and supporting, it makes the whole organization look desperate and vindictive.
When you look at Ms. Chortyk's track record with the BC SPCA, you do have to wonder how she ever received an Award of Excellence a few years ago from the Canadian Public Relations Society. That was the reason I cancelled my CPRS membership. No loss for them I'm sure, but just a personal statement on my part.
