Lorie Chortyk, the SPCA's "P.R. person", is a liability to the SPCA's attempts to improve its image

Lorie Chortyk, the SPCA's "P.R. person", is a liability to the SPCA's attempts to improve its image. Ironic, when she is the person who is paid to "image" the SPCA.

The image that the SPCA's P.R. person so frequently holds up to the public is part of the SPCA's "image problem". What Chortyk said is insensitive, mean-spirited, callous, and disrespectful of a real animal rescuer and welfarist dying painfully in hospital because she tried to save the cats she had dedicated herself to, unlike the SPCA which deliberately kills more cats a year than any so-called "hoarder" is able to save.

Ms Chortyk has a long history of harming the SPCA's image, one instance being her disastrous P.R. when Delta SPCA staff stole Cheech to keep the SPCA from killing him. Chortyk threw out so many outright fabrications about this incident and about Cheech that the media finally turned on the SPCA. After 100+ years of having the media in its pocket, the SPCA's own P.R. person, paid to present the best face of the SPCA, showed its true face - and it wasn't pretty.

When Delta decided to axe its $225,000 animal control contract with the SPCA because of the SPCA's stunning actions and words, Chortyk said, "If Delta wants to have dangerous dogs among their children, they can do that."

The implications of this insult are serious. Chortyk is intimating that the Mayor and Councillors of Delta don't care about the safety of Delta's children.

It brought more damage on the SPCA when Councillors were quoted: '"People have anecdotal horror stories about the SPCA amid an undercurrent of animosity and hatred," said Coun. Robert Campbell, who received almost 100 phone calls, e-mails and letters. And Councillor Vicki Huntington said, "Delta has not renewed its contract with the SPCA and we hope that the future will bring a more sensitive approach."'

More than a year later Chortyk is still being paid by the SPCA to insensitively harm its reputation.
