More than a year later Chortyk is still being paid by the SPCA to harm its reputation.
It shouldn't have to be necessary to point this out, but the fact that it is necessary reveals the root cause of the SPCA's decline and troubles: The wrong people are in charge of the SPCA's mandate. From the staff in the branches, to the Inspectors, to the Head Office, with few exceptions (if any) they do not understand what real animal welfare is. One of the SPCA's own Directors, a person charged with the duty to direct the BC SPCA in its mandate to help BC animals, "saved" a cute kitten from Louisiana after one of her branches had allowed cats to get sick and had killed 90 of them, some of them kittens. This Director actually boasted in print about the kitten she "saved" from the U.S. when there are homeless kittens in every branch of the BC SPCA which she directs.
The SPCA is ethically bereft and we cannot see that that will change under the leadership of the current management and Board of Directors.
