Several months ago, while I was still a volunteer at the Victoria SPCA I was told that the Prince George shelter had over 30 puppies that they could not keep. I immediately offered to drive there and fill my van with many, if not all of the pups and bring them down to Victoria. I asked management to contact PG and let them know I would be coming. The next day when I asked what PG had said I was told there were no pups to pick up. They had all been euthanized. While I have sometimes found the truth difficult to discern at the Victoria SPCA and so can only tell my side of this story, there is no doubt that there is an extreme excess of animals in Northern BC. I know the harsh reality of this from having lived in Fort St John for 2 years. Each trip to the shelter was sheer heartache for me, so many animals, so little space and resources.
