Animal Place Sanctuary and Education Center of California
Does your local SPCA or humane society serve sausage links and pancakes…or chicken à la king…or ham and cheese sandwiches at its fundraisers and other events? Help them see the contradictions between rescuing some animals — and eating others! Animal Place’s Food for Thought campaign provides shelters with the tools they need to adopt an animal-friendly, meatless menu policy.
Our Food for Thought resource kit includes sample menus and vegetarian policies, statements of support from shelter directors across the country, tips for working with shelter staff, volunteers, and boards to initiate a veggie policy, and a Q&A section.
“We have to speak up for the animals,” says Animal Place director Kim Sturla. “Make sure your local animal shelter knows that you want them to extend their compassion to all living beings. Meet with the shelter director and give them our Food for Thought resource kit; write a letter to your local paper in support of a vegetarian-menu policy. We can make a difference for farmed animals.”
Since the campaign was launched last summer, dozens of SPCAs and humane societies across the country have signed on to the Food for Thought effort. Make sure yours has joined the pack.
