If the manager of the Parksville SPCA is so in favour of feral cat colonies, why were the feral kittens killed?
Was there any attempt made to introduce them to an existing colony, or to start a new colony?
It's kind of hard to have it both ways.
I guess it's a beginning of a start, with the Parksville branch manager saying that the SPCA there will pay for spay/neuter of a feral colony (and the SPCA will "allow" someone to have a colony? - the gall!). But as Carole Sonnex points out - there are many other expenses involved, not just feeding.
Is the SPCA going to pay for food for the lifetime of the cats, if necessary? Will they deliver the food, and put it out, if the caretaker needs to be away?
Will they provide high quality feeding stations that keep all the food protected for the cats?
They could take a lesson from Happy Cat Haven in Gibsons, if they want to know about that.
Or will they just do a minimum spay/neuter (see info re: the SPCA's Feral Spay/Neuter DAY, receive maximum p.r., and then sit back and collect the donations while the rest of us are out there caring for the ferals?
