Last year there were 2 branches of the BC SPCA doing what many of us in rescue would consider doing good animal welfare work.
Now there are none.
Victoria branch of the BC SPCA has been stripped of most of its programs and is now virtually in my opinion a pet store which encourages owners to dump their animals.
The Victoria SPCA only takes owner-surrendered animals to resell for the previous owners, and transfers from other branches.
Marshall, the last Victoria Poster Dog, was a transfer from the Cowichan SPCA as the Cowichan Branch could not afford to fix him.
The generous donors of the Victoria Branch of course came to the rescue and donated.
Victoria is that kind of community.
However Victoria is also the kind of community that expects more than a pet store from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Not long ago I posted on AAS what great programs the Victoria branch of the BC SPCA had. Too bad they were so short-lived.
I am amazed that the BC SPCA would opt to force their best branches to change to meet the level of their others rather than to encourage the other branches to aim for better for the sake of the animals.
