Today, June 24, 2004 the small spay/neuter society I co-ordinate helped a gentleman who had already exhausted all of his resources at the veterinarian trying to save his six year old Staffordshire Terrier with cancer. Today, the dog could no longer stand and was unable to eat but when he phoned the Victoria SPCA he was told it does not have a veterinarian on staff and does not help with these cases.
He tried to explain how desperate his situation is and how much the dog was suffering but to no avail. This person has been eating in soup kitchens for the last month to provide antibiotics and pain relief and tests for his dog and none of this matters to the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
The dog has been humanely euthanized by a vet with his owner holding him, and is no longer suffering. Obviously, the BC SPCA does not have the word compassion within its vocabulary.
