If there aren't enough homes for unwanted animals in the northern and rural areas wouldn't it be more logical to utilize funds for spay/neuter in an effort to REDUCE the number of unwanted animals rather than shuffling animals to different locations?
Transporting animals to other areas is a bandaid solution in my opinion. Eventually those areas will eventually max out, then what?
PROBLEM:
There are too many animals and not enough homes for these animals.
SOLUTION:
1) Reduce the number of unwanted animals by spaying and neutering ALL shelter animals at ALL branches prior to adoption. Isn't this cost already included in the adoption fee?
2) Promote the importance of spaying & neutering with pro bono adds donated by major marketing firms instead of promoting adoptions.
3) Provide financial assistance to low income pet owners. Develop a specific PROVINCIAL fund donators can contribute to.
4) Utilize corporate sponsorship, donations and bequests to invest in spay/neuter mobile vans which can provide low cost spay/neuter services for various areas of the province.
5) Include a presentation of the importance of spay/neuter as part of a PROVINCIAL humane education program for volunteers at EVERY branch to present to schools at no, or low cost to the B.C. SPCA.
