Dangerous dogs being bred locally *PIC*

If society does not take action now, there are bigger, more dangerous breeds coming. There are 200 pound "manstoppers" in our communities now. Fila Mastiffs are being produced in the Lower Mainland by the same owners of the biggest Guard Dog business in BC , and being sold for $2,000. AAS reported this on our web site and newsletter in 2003....

Aggressive K9 Guard Dogs, in Maple Ridge, also breeds and sells protection dogs as well as hiring them out. In a February 2003 phone call we made to its breeding facility in Mission, we were told about the Fila Mastiffs, crosses between English mastiff, greyhound and bloodhound, they were just beginning to breed, "They bite - no warning, just come up and bite. Can jump six foot fences. Can be over 200 lbs. Bred to chase slaves and for jaguar hunting".

· Sell Rottweiler pups for $400 - $600. Sold at 6 weeks of age.

· Sell German shepherd pups for the same amount.

· Sell English mastiff pups for $1000 - $3000. Males may weigh 200 lbs.

· Will sell an adult Rottweiler or shepherd with some training for $600 - $4000.

For photos taken at Aggressive K9 during AAS's investigation of the Guard Dog industry, go to http://www.animaladvocates.com/guard-dog-business.htm.

These dogs will be owned by the criminal, the naive, and the uneducatable. Death rates will continue to rise.

Many are already used in the Guard Dog industry which primarily uses Rottweilers which are left all night unattended at business with lots, like car dealerships and on construction sites. The City of Vancouver has declined AAS's repeated requests (with documentation), to ban the keeping of unattended yard dogs. We have repeatedly warned that more children's lives will be ruined forever, as Shenica White's face and future has been, and more children will be killed. The City is unmoved.

Britain has national legislation to control dogs in public. The Dangerous Dogs Act (1991) specifies that three breeds, the Fila Brazileiro, Dogo Argentino and Japanese Tosa, are totally banned. A fourth breed, the American Pit Bull Terrier, is allowed only under severe restrictions. It must be registered, neutered, tattooed, microchipped and has to carry insurance. It cannot be bred or imported and when in public it must be muzzled, leashed and handled by a person over 16 years of age at all times.

Dogo Argentino
(Argentinian Mastiff)
(Argentine Dogo)

The Argentine Dogo was developed in Argentina by Dr. Antonio Nores Martinez in the 1920's. He started with a now extinct mastiff-type breed called the Dog of Cordoba. He added Great Dane, Boxer, Spanish Mastiff, Bulldog, Bull Terrier, Great Pyrenees, Pointer, Irish Wolfhound and Dogue de Bordeaux. The breed instantly appealed to people who organize and enjoy dogfights, an activity still popular in many parts of South America and elsewhere. Unfortunately this gave the dog a bad reputation in Britain.
