My step father was attacked by two pit bulls
In Response To: AAS position on dangerous dogs ()

I am the proud owner of 2 Akitas. I pride myself on my dog behaviour and am still a true believer that a dog will become the product of the environment it is raised in. I am so sorry for all those that have been bite victims, but it is the owners that need to be punished, not the animal.

My step father was attacked by 2 pit bulls while at work installing a hardwood floor one day (on Vancouver Island). The owner said she had two dogs but had locked them in the basement so the guys could work and that she would be outside in the garden until the were done. The owner was able to physically get the dogs off only after they ripped apart his hand. He has a severe infection in the bones in his hand that will not go away and may now require amputation. This was January 31 2003 and he is still fighting the homeowners since he is now disabled for the rest of his life. The owners had no problem putting their male to sleep(he was not the instigator) but kept the female(she bit first) and have since got another male, and I wonder why?

To breed?

Probably...

And what has happened for my stepdad? Nothing so far. The insurance company does not believe the doctors, surgeons or WCB and have wanted to meet with him to see how bad the damage really is...but everytime he books the appointment, they cancelt 2 hours before

Root causes: we can go on forever rescuing big breeds, having children ripped slowly to death, having our dog control agencies kill dogs, or we can...
WHY is not more being done by the SPCA and municipalities? How many kids are going to die or be maimed?
