Just last month....
S.L., who does kitten rescue, was told by the organization she does kitten feeding and fostering for, that 2 three-week old kittens had been brought to the Vancouver SPCA clinic. This organization was told by the SPCA that it could have the kittens and it asked S.L. to foster them.
It was 8:15 p.m. when S.L. was told about the kittens. She phoned the SPCA and asked if she could come for the kittens in the morning.
She was told she had better get there before the SPCA closed at 9:00 because there was no night staff and the kittens would die overnight. Just like that... no remorse, no shame.
And no night staff? At a clinic that has numerous animals in serious condition?
The SPCA claims that it has had to make staff cuts, but no night staff is nothing new. It doesn't pay its vet bills, but it does pay its bloated Head Office staff very handsomely. H.K., who asks, "As a long-time supporter of the SPCA, I want to know where the money goes. I would like to know exactly what proportion of public money actually does directly to animal care. I would also like to know what percentage of donations collected by the SPCA goes to the top-heavy upper-management mentioned in the press a few years ago", has asked the right questions.
