POM PUPPYMILL RESCUE

Pomeranian Puppymill Rescue

Ruby

Ruby: 8 year old Female
Medical Needs:
Vaccinate, Tattoo, Deworm, Advantage, Bloodpanel, ECG, XRays, Cardiac Ultrasound, Fecal culture, as well as antibiotics for Colitis and Eye and Bacterial Skin Infections.

Ruby is a very loving little dog.  Probably around 12 years old.  No teeth.  Tail up and wagging, watching you constantly waiting to be noticed.  Dances on her feet, cuddles right in when picked up. She will probably just stay with me as she has a terrible heart arrythmia, separation anxiety, and colitis and an ongoing eye condition.  She is starting to heal and settle in and I just don't have the heart to move her again.
Ruby loves the sunshine and green grass at her new home.

Ruby's bear-rug impersonation as her dirty, tangled coat is shaved down.

She especially loves her new haircut....no more tangles, just wash and wear hair.

I took Ruby dressed as my Teddy-Bear to the extended care facility for the staff/resident's Halloween get together.  All the staff were wearing costumes and we walked through all six floors.  It was really hard to keep up as the residents wanted to hold Ruby once they realized she moved and wasn't a stuffed toy.

It was so heart-warming to see residents respond to her.  They just melted.  Ruby was so cute and so well behaved.  She loved sitting with the elderly people and didn't care if they were in wheelchairs or beds, nothing fazed her.  The recreation department has some wonderful pictures of her with some of the seniors.
Quite a transition for a little old puppy mill dog that was living in filth and squalor.

Ruby's rescuer and new Mum feels what all rescuers and adoptors of rescued dogs feel...

I love this little dog. Dynamite couldn't break us apart at this point. She has been through the wringer with neglect, abuse, skin infections, heart issues, eye conditions and colitis yet is always happy, happy, happy and loves to be close and cuddled. We have made many trips to the veterinary clinic but Ruby never complains. The staff affectionately call her "Little Bean" and she always gets a pat and a cuddle from the girls. Ruby has a never-ending capacity for forgiveness as evidenced by her loving nature in spite of her previous life in the puppy mill. If people could be the same we would have peace in the world.

Ruby's colitis is finally coming under control with antibiotics and special
food.  Her hair is starting to grow back from where her chest was shaved for
the ECG's and ultrasound of her heart and the bare spots from her bacterial
skin infection are filling in with black fuzzy hair.  Her eye condition is
clearing up now and her little black eyes literally shine when she grins.
It's been a long haul health wise but we're finally winning

Is Santa here yet??  I just know I've been good.  At least that's what my
mom always tells me.  She loves me even though I don't have teeth and my
heart is very tired.  She says I have a beautiful smile that lights up my
eyes and a heart of gold.  I was going to ask Santa for some new eyeballs
for my adoptive puppy mill sister Adele but mom said she doesn't miss her
eyes anymore than I miss my teeth.  That's okay, I think she's beautiful and
we love her too.  Some day she is going to come with mom and I to the
Senior's residence to visit  the nice people there.

It's wonderful to watch Ruby play with my other puppymill dog.  Ruby doesn't seem to notice or care that Adele is different and doesn't have eyes to see with. They are best friends and sleep curled up on each side of me all night long, waking only in the morning and running pell-mell for the backdoor to see if it snowed.

Ruby twinkles brighter than a Christmas star.  She is so happy, some days
it hurts to look at her.  I don't need a tree or lights for Christmas, I don't
need any presents at all, I have Ruby and Adele and they encompass all the season should be...Peace, Love, and Forgiveness.
