I reside in Ontario. Our largely self-funded OSPCA excercises extraordinary police powers without governmental oversight. Like the BC SPCA. The OSPCA is not subject to Freedom of Information. Just like your BC SPCA.

In 1989 Ontario Federation of Agriculture President Brigid Pyke demanded Ontario strip the OSPCA of police powers.

June 2006 twenty nine OSPCA provincial directors resigned. Eight sent a letter to the Premier of Ontario demanding the OSPCA be stripped of investigative and enforcement powers.

The province ignored these requests and chose instead to increase funding and powers to the OSPCA by passing Bill 50.

In not addressing the need for governmental oversight of this provincial police force, the province has contributed to the situation currently unfolding in Ontario. Google OSPCA and you will be shocked.

An Ontario facebook site with 37,000 members is calling for an independent investigation & legislative changes to ensure regulatory oversight of the OSPCA.

MPP Frank Klees and Ontario's former Solicitor General, David Turnbull are leading the charge.

I would NEVER blindly trust ANYTHING the BC SPCA says because absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Those guilty of animal cruelty generally do NOT publicly seek to change the system. What if Carla is right and the BC SPCA has abused its powers in their dealings with her?
