Mr Daniell: do cats get colds or don't they?

In order to tie up a few loose ends of the tangled web I note the following:
From the Vancouver Sun: "A Prison Camp for Animals" by Barbara Yaffe: April 29, 2004

"Daniell acknowledged that a lack of resources would be a factor that could lead to ethanasia, especially if such a circumstance were combined with other factors such as the animal suffering from a cold and/or an inability to adopt the animal out.

Only six months later in the Richmond News Mr Daniell says:

"Reichert alleges the B.C. SPCA kills animals "when they have treatable, minor ailments like colds. This is not correct. Firstly, animals do not get colds."

Mr. Daniell's memory and temper fails him under pressure. He is desperately grasping at straws with this silly statement.

Mr Daniell: Do cats get colds or don't they get colds?

And does the SPCA consider killing healthy animals to prevent them from getting sick, as the practice of preventative medicine?
