"She was rushed to the BC SPCA in need of immediate emergency care"
From a witness to this whole story, from the first frantic phone calls from Spud's family looking for temporary financial help....
Early in the morning, Spud's frantic family first called the after hours emergency number for the Chilliwack/Abbotsford SPCA looking for help, and was denied it. They were told NOT to bring Spud to Abbotsford because she would be put down.
Later in the day, the Chilliwack SPCA manager changed her mind, told the family that only by surrendering the ownership of Spud to the SPCA, allowing it to kill Spud if it chose, would the SPCA get vet care for Spud. The grieving family signed her over. And that was the last they saw of Spud, but the SPCA has been milking this story in the media since last May.
Is it any wonder that hundreds of thousands of people who do animal welfare, or have seen through the SPCA's P.R., or have understood the SPCA after one visit to one of its pounds, revile the SPCA in such strong language?
Is it no wonder that so few animal lovers trust the BC SPCA?
