The Manager of the Victoria Branch of the BC SPCA stated on this radio interview that the "Ginger Project" would be free to anyone that could not afford to pay.
Where else has the Victoria Branch advertised the free spay/neuter?
On the Victoria SPCA website the costs to the owner are posted at $50 for a spay and $30 for a neuter respectively. Not FREE for those who cannot afford to pay anything.
Have the veterinarians in Victoria been asked by the SPCA to refer those who cannot afford spay/neuter to them, as Greater Victoria Animal Crusaders has told the vets to do for many years?
Have all the Transition Houses and Low-cost Housing Property Managers been contacted and asked to refer those who need help?
Has TAPS (Together Against Poverty) or the Single Parents Resource Center been contacted?
Have posters advertising free spay/neuter been posted at the soup kitchens downtown? Or anywhere where very low income people congregate?
Has the Victoria SPCA added free spay/neuter for cats to their numerous television spots on Hot Dogs in Cars?
Has the Victoria SPCA mentioned free spay/neuter when showing all of the cute kittens for adoption on television or even mentioned the large number of adult cats looking for homes?
Have all of the women caring for feral colonies been told to call the Victoria SPCA for free spay/neuter help during this prime time?
I am unaware of any of the above being done.
I am spay/neuter co-ordinator of a Society in Victoria that has been assisting people with spay/neuter for over 30 years. The vets in the community refer many people to us each and every month. We work closely with the Y-Street Outreach, the various Transition House and have our posters throughout downtown and various foodbanks advertising spay/neuter and emergency vet care. The work within the street community is growing rapidly (monthly street clinics) and we have been helping with feral colonies for decades.
