No home checks are made by the Nanaimo SPCA is what I was told by a Nanaimo SPCA employee, and that is what I have been told by volunteers, and that is what I believe. Carolyn's insistence that they do, consequently, is not believable to me.
The foster person, who took one or more of the hounds at first, very quickly returned them...because they are difficult dogs. They are escape artists.
I phoned the Nanaimo SPCA to ask questions about adopting one and was told that there was no time to make home checks. I was also told that it was okay that I worked all day....even though these are still pups and will be terribly lonely, under-exercised, under-socialized, and probably destructive.
Since no effort will be made to match dog to owner properly, it is likely that the foster person will not be the only one to return these dogs. All this passing from hand to hand may ruin them. What then? The SPCA claims to have rehabilitation programs but that is just another falsehood.
This is an SPCA employee's idea of rescue. That doesn't surprise us as the SPCA's idea of animal welfare in general is just as ethically unsound....but all this is sound business sense.
