German Shepherd Rescue of BC is an SPCA "approved" rescue group. Our understanding was that approved rescue groups will be contacted about any dog of a breed that they specialize in, if it is not "adoptable" by the SPCA, and given the opportunity to accept the dog into the group's care and rehabilitation. Obviously, that is not the case .
We were never contacted about Tina at all.
We're usually full, and we can't help in every circumstance, but given the fact that we are on the SPCA "approved" list, why weren't we at least called about her?
We've never been asked to help out at Delta. I don't know why that is. If anyone had made us aware of the fact that Tina was in danger, we might of been able to do something.
Just two weeks ago I had to buy a dog out of the Kamloops SPCA because Bob Busch would not authorize transferring a dog to us that they could sell. This dog wasn't in any danger of being killed, (though the one we pulled with him was) but more-so in danger of being sold to just anyone with no matching or home check done. We knew that there was a great possibly that someone would come and "buy" this cute puppy and when the novelty wore off the chances were very good that he would get thrown out in the yard never to be seen of again until they got sick of him 3 - 4 years later and dumped him back at the SPCA to be killed. $110 was worth his life and future, in my opinion. (Neither dog was neutered btw.) But what the heck is the point of being on their "approved" list if they won't release them to us?!
We aren't just here to take the dogs that the SPCA has trouble adopting. We are here to make sure that the GSD is placed into the appropriate homes! Even the adoptable ones. I make the time because it is important to me that these dogs get placed properly rather than just sold off to god knows who for god knows what. GSDs, as I am more than sure you are aware, attract people that want to stick them in guard dog situations among other things. Give the SPCA $145(shelter depending) and you have yourself a nice little alarm system when you let it out of it's crate.
