AAS does not usually publish unsigned letters, but we have made an exception in this case because the writer has provided a forum to show how SPCA employees' minds work (or don't work as the case may be)....
Gloat now. You will regret the loss of the SPCA in time. You have no idea how sad it is that She is taking such a beating right now. There are some changes that were needed and they were taking place. You have helped to destroy the one and only true, legal, legitimate and caring society able to do the job of realistic animal protection. You gloat that the SPCA lost the contract in North Van...ask the new operator if you can 'drop off' an animal for adoption for free...they won't take your pet...they want you to leave a fee ( I think over fifty dollars ) or they suggest you take the animal to the Vancouver SPCA. The SPCA will ask you for a donation...if you don't have it...they take you pet anyway. Thats our mandate. Its animal care, not money. Try it...take you pet to the New North Van facility and tell them you have no money. They won't take you pet! There also seems to be some misinformation that you have had in the past. The SPCA does not pay most Constables wages. The cities do...and further...the SPCA spends thousands and thousands of dollars a month, on vet fees for stray and adoption animals. Most vets will not give us a break...oh 10 percent here and there, but for the most part we pay close to the going rate. Another bit of information you don't have...LAPS in Langley...your new and improved animal control service...yes they took the animal control contract from the SPCA, have trouble picking up injured animals at night...why??? I don't know...but the SPCA's night emerg staff are still doing it. Where would YOU be if you had an injured animal at night and you didn't have the SPCA to call?? Here's another tit bit of information i know you don't have, LAPS includes their projected vet fees (daytime only of course) into their budget submitted to Langley. Heaven forbid should the SPCA have ever asked the Cities and Municipalities for help with vet fees. THey would have laughed in our faces. Heres one more...emergencies at night. The SPCA provides emergency services all night, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Try to get your "New and Improved Pounds and Humane organisations" to do that. And just one more thing...if anyone takes and dog, cat or other pet to the emergency clinics at night, the SPCA picks up the bill...oh, do you think your "New and Improved Pound and Humane Societies" would be interested in taking on some of the costs of the animals we pay for, from THEIR areas...I don't think so!!!! Give your head a real shake. The SPCA has taken so many hits from people like you that it is swooning from the pressure and buckling. It will not be long before you once again turn to the SPCA for their help.
