Child victims of dog attacks do not die quickly

Child victims of dog attacks do not die quickly.

Typically the dogs rip off scalps and skin, then arms and legs, and then finally tear the chest open. The child may be aware of what is happening to him or her for several minutes. The dogs may stop for a moment and then resume the attack if the child moves.

The dogs that kill children this way are almost always pit bulls and Rottweilers. Most other breeds will bite once or twice and then stop.

The children who die or are maimed by land mines are luckier than children who are attacked by dogs. Land mines are quick.

We call the countries that permit their children to play near land mines savage, brutal, uncivilized. What then are we?
