Kay Hartman's position is Humane Education Instructor. I think she is full time. There may be other part time staff who instruct humane education also. At the Spring Valley School Career Fair there were two volunteers at the SPCA table with the kitten and rabbit, no information on spay/neuter or other animal issues, it was pathetic.
The Kelowna SPCA also retains Jeff White, a charity lawyer, for $1200.00 a month. That was a few years ago when I was a director, I don't know how much he is getting now. When I was on the board of directors, for over a year I was was not aware (it was not general knowledge with the members either) that Jeff White was being paid to solicit bequests for the Kelowna SPCA. Bernice Demchuck, hired by the manager Russ Forand has been employeed full time as a "volunteer coordinator."for at least three years. She organizes dog walking and the walkathon which I did for free as a volunteer for years. I actually started the dog walking program 10 years ago. She also plans events such as dinner dances and awards for the volunteers. Last count, the Kelowna SPCA has about fourteen employees (FT and PT) The Kelowna SPCA also has a limit on dogs. They like to keep the number of dogs down to 25 or less. I guess the Beaverdell dogs are an exception but how long will they survive?
