Letter re: Creston Crisis...

September 5, 2002

Attention: Michael Steven, President

Board of Directors, SPCA

As the guardian of Tupal, one of the 56 dogs that were rescued by PAWS during June 2002 I wish to express my deepest anger at the SPCA for the lack of intervention of behalf of these starving, abused, chained and neglected animals.

For three long years they waited for rescue and the trauma caused by the extended lack of action from the Society who has been established to protect them will remain for a life time.

I look into the eyes of a haunted soul, for she is afraid and she is terrified. I hold her in my arms as the night becomes a place she does not want to visit because nightmares begin with darkness.

I stand beside her as she eats, for she will not allow herself to indulge in the pleasure of food without the security of my presence and I walk with her by my side in the yard, for she will not leave the inside of her home without my guidance.

Because a society I supported for over 20 years did not respond to phone calls, letters and pleas for assistance for the Creston dogs the SPCA should itself be charged under the cruelty to animals act. The Society allowed and supported continued abuse of 56+ animals who desperately needed removal from a horrific environment. The Society KNEW about this abuse and made a decision NOT to intervene on their behalf.

I encourage you to review the Creston Crisis and ask why the SPCA should not be charged with animal endangerment.

Looking forward to your response,

Gail Moerkerken, RRP
