To Michael Steven, President
And the Board of Directors,
BC SPCA
We urge you to bring forward for discussion at the September 7th meeting of the Board of the BC SPCA these urgent matters:
Laws put in place and ENFORCED to stop uncontrolled backyard breeding and puppy mills, unless these laws are put into force immediately the flow of unwanted animals will never stop. In order to breed an animal the person should have to obtain a special licence for a very large fee, breeding without a licence would result in a very heavy fine. These charges could pay for more inspectors to make sure the laws are not abused. There should also be restrictions as to which species can be bred, in Surrey there are people breeding wolves with pit bulls, rotties and coyotes, they produce cute puppies but in an adult it is a lethal combination.
Why didn’t the SPCA act on the situation with the Topaz dogs and cats, they knew about it for three years and it took a rescue group, PAWS, to finally help these animals. Then the SPCA takes all the credit, and the donations.
Why are there people working for the SPCA breeding and mutilating dogs, they are supposed to set an example not increase the problem.
Stricter follow ups on spay and neuters of unaltered animals adopted out, get a bond posted which will be returned when proof of spay or neuter is shown.
More screening of homes prior to adoptions.
Ban sales of animals in pet stores.
